Hello and thank you for visiting my website! My name is Caitlin Costello and I am honored to be your Miss Teen Oklahoma United States 2013! I would love to share with you my personal journey that has brought me to this special moment in my life.
I am a 17 year old rising high school junior and the 4th of 5 kids. I have one sister, three brothers, two dogs and one cat! Last spring, I had a chance meeting with Ms. Ann Lacy, one of Oklahoma’s greatest philanthropists. She encouraged me to join the OKC Riversport rowing team. So I tried out for the Junior Novice team and made it!! It was a big commitment, and I row two hours a day, six days a week. I love it! I have met great kids from schools all over the city, made new friends and traveled to Austin, Tennessee and Dallas competing in regattas.
Because of my new demanding sport, I began to pay closer attention to my nutrition so I could have the stamina to be a good teammate. I traded in my afterschool Sonic Tater Tots and Cherry Limeades for apple slices and almonds. I began to experience an unexpected and wonderful transformation in my life. I began to lose weight.
As I was losing weight, I was getting stronger. I noticed that my grades improved, I was able to sleep better and handle everyday stresses better. My pants began to fall off of my hips and I needed to buy smaller sizes. By April, I had lost 35 lbs.!!!! My self-confidence began to soar!
My very beautiful older sister is a professional model and has competed in pageants, winning and placing on the state and national level for the past 7 years. This year, my sister won the state title of Miss Oklahoma United States 2013. When she saw the personal success and transformation in my life, she strongly encouraged me to compete for the Miss Teen title. She promised me that she would partner up with me, work out with me and team up with me as we cooked and ate healthy food together. With her love, support and encouragement, I decided to go for it, and won the Miss Teen Oklahoma U.S. title!!!
I wanted to do something with my title that mattered. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to do things that would change lives. I researched childhood obesity and learned that 1 in 3 children are obese. That's 190,000 kids in Oklahoma and 25 million kids in the U.S.!!! I knew I had to share my personal story with others. Now I am speaking to schools, afterschool programs and organizations in the hopes of encouraging others to change their lives. Please go to my Partner Up Campaign to learn more about my year of service.
My sister and I will be traveling to Washington D.C. in July to compete for the National title. A year ago, I never would have dreamed that I would be competing in a pageant and sharing this personal story with others!
